Sleep Disorders Center

The Sleep Disorders Center is a joint program of Eastern Virginia Medical School and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. We have helped patients with sleep problems since 1980. In 1986, we became the first Center in Virginia, and the second one on the East Coast, to be accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

We provide the full range of diagnostic services and treatment for sleep disorders. The Sleep Disorders Center is staffed by medical professionals who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of such sleep disorders, particularly snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, and restless legs syndrome.

We also conduct research on normal sleepers and those with sleep problems. We have tested most sleeping pills marketed today. In addition, we conduct driving simulation research to evaluate sleepiness and highway safety.
